Cheddleton Village Staffordshire Moorlands

About

In 2004 Cheddleton.net organised the Broadband for Cheddleton Campaign.  We didn't have broadband, and we needed 200 registrations before BT would upgrade our exchange.  Around 1000 houses were leafleted in August/September, asking people to signup to BT's registration page.   After just a few weeks, we hit our target, and BT committed to upgrade the exchange in February 2005.

  1. Today , October 12th 2011,news broke that at the CheddletonParish Council meeting last night it was announced that there had been an application made to construct 50 houses on 7.5 acres green belt land in Cheddleton,The land lies at the back of Folly Lane and stretches to the main A520 road ,Wetley Rocks to Leek .
It has been stated that if this plan is eventually accepted ,after being supported by the Parish Coucil.A sum of money ,said to be 0.5 of a million pounds will be paid to the parish Council’
What do people think about this news?Should Green belt land be allowed to be used in this manner ?

Has the Parish council consulted any of their electorate ?
Who made the application and who owns the land?

    • In reply to Scottboy, we know which councillor was involved with the application so we can only guess who owns the land ! I could be wrong.
Have had the Pointons stinking card, but have to say what is the point in complaining. We have complained for years with no results. Money talks!!

      • just like to add that this land was ear marked for land development years ago by the ownwers the access road into it is there for all to see from the road at mill rise furthermore parish councils have no sway in developing land and certainly cannot accept 0.5 million pounds i think whoever wrote this is trying to evoke a reaction i wont be drawn into this i live on folly lane too further more back hander how do you know who made the application when scott boy asks who made the application and who owns the land please tell back hander who it is ???????????????

    • evening i know nothing of this until now after a little searching try cheddleton parish council website minutes of there are clear to see and land is not owned by a councilloraccording to land registry x

  2. There is written paper from the people who made the application :
David Breakwell, who used to work for SMDC ,and Gez Willard who both work for a private planning consultancy. They declare that they are both working for the owner of the site.
The SMDC planning officer indicates that she has no knowledge of the application.
I suggest that residents ask their Parish Council representative for a full and detailed explanation.

  3. In reply to jopinda,i am not saying the councillor who (according to the Leek Post some weeks ago)tried to push through these plans, owned the land. The point was who he works for!

    • ah mr Breakwell the man whos going round each and every village trying to push for homes thank god he doesnt work for SMDC anymore thats all im saying anything else wouldnt be polite !

  4. It has been said, by a local source, that the said land was defined to be an S.S.I. I would say that it is a reliable source. Anybody know anything else about this statement ?
